Live History This Weekend
Below is a list of 2013 reenactment events from various time periods that may be of interest to our customers. We encourage you to seek out living history and reenactment events in your area and to get involved in historical reenacting. The reenacting hobby is a great way to spend time with friends and family, have fun outdoors, meet interesting people, make long lasting friendships, learn about our nation’s history, and pass that knowledge on to the public.
Participate with Us!
Veteran Arms, LLC is offering several opportunities for reenactors to join us for a weekend of fun and history. If you are interested in participating with us in one or more of the following events, please contact us at: Charles@VeteranArms.com and tell us about your interest. We will forward you all of the relevant information about the event and how you can join us for a weekend of fun.
February 15-16 - Battle of Olustee, FL (1864) - Participate with the folks from Veteran Arms, LLC in the 149th Anniversary Battle of Olustee, the largest Civil War Battle in Florida. We will be participating as Union Infantry and would love to have you join us for the weekend. For more information, e-mail us at: Charles@VeteranArms.com
March 16-17 - Ft Montgomery & Tensaw (1813) - Tensaw, AL - Join the folks from Veteran Arms, LLC in reenacting the 200th Anniversary of the Red Stick War at the frontier encampment. During the War of 1812, a conflict broke out in the Mississippi Territory (present day Alabama) between Creek Indians hostile to white settlement (called Red Sticks) and the settlers and friendly Creeks of the “near frontier.” The ensuing war has come to be known as The Red Stick War. While we encourage those participating with us to portray Creek Indians (we can assist with this), those wanting to portray settlers and militia are also welcome. For more info, e-mail us at: Charles@VeteranArms.com for more information on how to participate.
April 25-28 - Battle of Selma, AL (1865) -
The folks from Veteran Arms, LLC are assisting with the raising of a company of soldiers to portray Wilson’s Raiders. Wilson’s Raiders were equipped with Spencer repeating rifles and carbines. Those persons who own a Spencer repeater, Henry repeater, or breechloading carbine are especially encouraged to join us, although these weapons are NOT required. Our impression for the weekend will be as members of the 4th Iowa Cavalry - a unit who made a dismounted charge upon the enemy fortifications. For more information, e-mail us at: Charles@VeteranArms.com
Aug 30-Sept 1 - Massacre at Fort Mims (1813) - Tensaw, AL - The massacre at Fort Mims was the spark that really ignited the Red Stick War. In a surprise attack on the outpost fort, more than 1000 Red Stick Warriors surprised approximately 550 unsuspecting settlers and militia. During the several hours of fighting, much of it hand-to-hand, all but 36 of the garrison were killed. The bodies of the killed were mutilated and the outpost burned. Panic quickly spread and a campaign was launched that ultimately culminated with the victory of Gen Jackson and his Creek allies at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. For more info, e-mail us at: Charles@VeteranArms.com
Sept 19-22 - Battle of Chickamauga (1863) - If you have ever wanted to fire the big guns, this is your chance! Veteran Arms, LLC would like to invite you to participate with us in the 150th Anniversary Battle of Chickamauga as we portray the men of the 1st Ohio Light Artillery, Battery C. Battery C was right in the thick of the fight and lost a gun and caisson during Longstreet’s Breakthrough. Participants will have the chance to serve on the crew of a 12 pdr Napoleon and 3 Inch Ordnance Rifle as we attempt to repel the rebel assaults and make a stand along with Gen Thomas on Snodgrass Hill. For more information, e-mail us at: Charles@VeteranArms.com
December 7-8 - Battle of Holy Ground (1813) - Lownesboro, AL - After the Massacre at Fort Mims, General Claiborne assembled a force of approximately 1000 men including Territorial Militia, Choctaw Indians, and the 3rd US Infantry to seek out and destroy the Red Stick threat. In December, his forces assaulted a fortified settlement at Econochaca defended by approximately 320 Red Stick Warriors. Veteran Arms, LLC welcomes you to join us for the 200th Anniversary of this battle. Although Red Stick Warriors are badly needed, participants may portray militia or US Regulars. For more information, e-mail us at: Charles@VeteranArms.com
